Celebrities marry, they divorce
It’s a way of life in Hollywood, so why were we devastated at the latest celeb split?

Published January 11, 2012Bloody Hell! I am devastated by all of this coverage of Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s recent divorce. Perry is set to make her first post-split appearance Wednesday at The People’s Choice Awards!
The “California Girl” is nominated for seven awards, including Song of the Year for “E.T.” with Kanye West. Even though she is not set to present or perform, the odds are she will get on stage.
But over the weekend we did get a little taste. Perry tweeted, "Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me. Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family."
This came after The Sun reported that ‘close sources’ were claiming Brand made fun of her religious parents. Last week both her mother and father spoke at a church near Cleveland. Her mother told a congregation in Westlake the divorce was a “gift from God.”
Her father also added, “I love my daughter and I will always love her. Stop being judgmental and critical. Do not close the doors to your loved ones, especially your children.”
But it is not all bad comments coming from @katyperry. She also tweeted, “I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again."
Personally I loved the couple, they were quirky, strange and somehow seemed to work. But what went wrong?
Some writers are blaming Perry’s extremely religious upbringing. As a pastor’s daughter can you imagine bringing a former self-proclaimed sex and drug addict home to meet the folks? But then again, she is the singer whose first single was “I Kissed a Girl” and has an entire song begging a man to see his “peacock, cock, cock.”
The two moved extremely fast; they met at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in September and were engaged by that January. They married Oct. 24, 2010 in India.
The two had only known each other a little over a year when they were married! Brand filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences (what does that even mean?) on Dec. 31, 2011. The two were married 14 months.
Personally I think there are aspects of their relationship we just don’t know about.
The two kept very private, and though they are avid on Twitter and always had great things to say about each other in interviews, they were not seen in public very often.
Perry recently toured here in Columbus and at her concert at The Schott told us all how her and Brand had spent the day together riding around Columbus and eating Jeni’s Ice Cream.
As for Perry’s Wednesday appearance, rumors have circulated that Brand is banned from the awards, but these are false.
E! Online is reporting that he will not be in attendance. My guess is Perry won’t do press, so our best bet is to see her accept an award. I wonder what she will have to say on stage.
Brand will be keeping himself busy for the next few months; he will be shooting Diablo Cody’s untitled directorial debut alongside Julianne Hough (“Dancing with the Stars,” “Footloose”) and Octavia Spencer (“The Help”).
Another unsuccessful celebrity marriage to add to the books. Stay tuned because this divorce is not over, rumor is there was no prenup!
