Aida
Off the Lake Productions will present their annual musical this Thursday at 7 p.m. in Hitchcock Hall Room 131. This year’s production will be Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida. Organizers ask that you bring one canned food item for admission, which will be donated to the Mid-Ohio foodbank.
M.I.A. and Soulja Boy
OUAB brings hip artists M.I.A. and Soulja Boy to the Newport Music Hall this Saturday, May 10, at 8 p.m. M.I.A. blends electronica and world music to her style of hip-hop, and is still a relatively new name to most fans of the genre. Soulja Boy needs little introduction with chart-toppers like “Crank That” and “Soulja Girl.” The only way to get into the concert, however, is to already have a ticket: It’s already sold out.
“Lightskin/Darkskin”
“Lightskin/Darkskin” will be performed this Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in Hitchcock Hall Room 131. It is a play that “both comically and dramatically explores the lives of two young black females and their road to accept who they were on the inside...and the outside, of course.” Playwrights Jocelyn Bioh and Kelley Girod play eight different characters in the production.
1st OUAB Film Competition
OUAB will hold its first Short Film Competition this Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in Hagerty Hall Room 180. The audience will determine the winner of the films submitted by students. Along with free food and drinks for the audience, the first prize winner will receive $300 and a screening of their film at the end of this month during the Movie on the Oval.
“Charlie Wilson’s War”
OUAB’s Flicks for Free series continues next Wednesday, May 14, at 8 p.m. in Campbell Hall Room 200, with “Charlie Wilson’s War.” The film, starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman, tells the true story of how a playboy congressman, a renegade CIA agent, and a beautiful Houston socialite joined forces to lead the largest and most successful covert operation in history. As always, free food, prizes, and drinks will be provided.
