Supermodel’s death ruled a suicide
Ruslana Korshunova, the 20-year-old supermodel who graced the cover of Vogue, committed suicide Saturday when she fell from her ninth floor apartment in New York. Korshunova appeared in ads and on runways shows for Marc Jacobs, Nina Ricci, and DKNY, the AP reported.
Shooting demo uses real bullets, injures 16
Officials say 16 adults and children have been wounded at a military shooting demonstration in southeast France Sunday, when real bullets were used instead of blanks. Four of those wounded, including a 3-year-old child, were in serious condition. The Defense Ministry says it is investigating why real bullets were used. It is not immediately clear what kind of weapon was used.
Widespread HIV testing sought in the Bronx
A three-year initiative will seek to give HIV tests to everyone in the Bronx from age 18 to 64, the New York City Department of Health announced Thursday. The announcement was made after a report was released which found a high rate of “unsafe sexual behavior” in New York City. According to the report, a quarter of New Yorkers infected with HIV— more than 21,000 people — live in the Bronx. City officials say that one in four people with HIV in the Bronx do not know they are infected, and already have full-blown AIDS.
Teen seeking hat decapitated at Six Flags
A teenager was decapitated by a roller coaster after he hopped a pair of fences and entered a restricted area Saturday at Six Flags. Authorities are investigating reports from witnesses who said the teenager was trying to retrieve a hat he lost while riding the Batman roller coaster. Police said the ride was going full speed when the teen was struck. No one riding on the roller coaster was injured, officials said.
Mini-Me sues over sex tape sales
Austin Powers star Vern Troyer, who played “Mini-Me,” is suing the website TMZ for $20 million over a sex tape that featured him and his ex-girlfriend. Troyer says the tape was stolen, and that the site violated his rights by airing the tape.
Obama and Clinton campaign together
Rivals turned allies, Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton made a display of unity Friday in New Hampshire, their first joint public appearance since the divisive Democratic primary race ended. At a private appearance with Obama on Thursday in Washington, Clinton encouraged her top fundraisers to help Obama. She went one step further on Friday as she and her husband made the maximum $2,300 donation to Obama’s campaign in an online transaction.

Lebron James helps kids save planet
Lebron James has paired up with Nickelodeon and Spongebob Squarepants to raise awareness about the environment as part of Nickelodeon’s Big Green Help Campaign. James is featured on Nick’s Web site in a game where kids navigate a bike-riding LeBron avatar down an obstacle-filled dirt road. The animated hoopster delivers “green” tips along the way on how to help the planet.
Anheuser-Busch to stop sale of energy drinks in Ohio
Anheuser-Busch struck a deal with Ohio and 10 other states to stop making the popular premixed alcoholic energy drinks. The company was marketing its caffeinated drinks to minors and misrepresenting the drinks’ health benefits, New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said.
“These energy alcohol drinks lead to wide awake drunks,” Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said, during a conference call with other attorney generals in the case. “They create a false sense of both security and capacity. They energize the intoxicated.”
Cleveland Clinic wants thinner staff
The Cleveland Clinic is taking another step toward a healthier work force. To help its employees shape up and slim down, the hospital known for its cardiac care is joining forces with Weight Watchers. Cleveland Clinic chief wellness officer Dr. Michael Roizen says when employees feel healthier and are healthier, they’re able to take care of patients better. The clinic banned smoking on campus three years ago and stopped hiring smokers last September. It banned trans-fats from its menus earlier last year.
