The Return of Terror Park!

[2 Comment(s)]

By Andy Hahn

Every October for the last ten years, Cooper Stadium has undergone a terrifying facelift. The family-friendly ballpark turns into a place that will have you screaming in terror more than for the Columbus Clippers. That place is Terror Park. If you're a thrill seeker or just looking to scare the crap out of your girlfriend, this would be the place to go. It is also the last time you will be able to go at Cooper Stadium, as they will be moving to Huntington Park after this season.

Kelly Collins, who has been designing Terror Park for the last ten years, was first a general manager at a campground that gave hayrides. While working at the campground, he was approached by a group of Columbus Jaycees about designing a haunted hayride. They worked together, and he has been involved in haunted attractions like Terror Park since then. He has been in charge of actors and operations of Terror Park for all ten years, and he thinks that this year's finale could be the scariest of them all.

Terror Park has one of the top-rated hearse scenes in the region. This scene is where you are supposed to crawl through the back of the hearse with the coffin lid popped open. As you crawl into the coffin, there is only a piece of plexiglass on the bottom separating you from a zombie pounding on the glass. Collins says that people decline to go inside, and will skip that part of the park.

Terror Park is known as one of the top haunted attractions in the state, based on the people who rank the attractions. The thing that sets Terror Park apart from the rest is, according to Collins, the make-up artists and the actors: "We have some of the very best make-up artists and actors around; most places have their actors wear rubber masks, and we have five make-up artists, so we try to use things out of movies."

Terror Park opens on Oct. 3 and runs from 7:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. It then remains open every Friday and Saturday through Oct. from 7:30 p.m. to 12 am. Terror Park will start its Thursday nights on Oct. 16, and will operate from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. the rest of the month.
