Michael Cera

"Juno," "Superbad," and "Arrested Development" star Michael Cera has potentially another hit on his hands with the upcoming release of "Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist." The film stars Cera as Nick, and Kat Dennings as Norah, who end up going on this late night adventure trying to find a band's secret show. Mixed tapes are the soundtrack to their unexpected romance. UWeekly talked with Michael and Kat about the upcoming release.
UW: What instruments do you guys actually play?
Michael Cera: Maracas.
Kat Dennings: I play the cow bell.
MC: Marimba, kalimba, calypso
KD: Calypso?
UW: You guys are very ethnic in your music choices.
KD: Thank you
MC: Yes, we try to be.
UW: You guys have a kissing scene in the movie. How did you prepare for that?
KD: You brush your teeth
MC: Eat a sandwich
KD: Michael eats sandwiches and I brush my teeth, because I'm from Philadelphia and that's how they do it there.
MC: I eat a toothpaste sandwich.
UW: What was your main draw to do this movie?
MC: The main draw was working with Peter, because I was a big fan of his, and I though the story was good, and that he would be good for it. So that was really the draw.
UW: What was your favorite artist featured in the movie?
MC: I like Bishop Allen and Vampire Weekend.
KD: And I loved Devendra Banhart, and I love Vampire Weekend, also.
UW: Now this question is for Michael: There have been a lot of renewed references to your role as a teenage father in "Juno," because of the pregnancy of the daughter of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin at the age of 17. What do you think about having your movie talked about in that context?
MC: Well, I had a feeling when I took the part that something like that would happen; that Sarah Palin would run and her teen would be pregnant, and so I'm glad that it finally was fulfilled.
UW: If you could come up with a tagline for the film, what would it be?
KD: This October press play, that's on the poster.
MC: I think the part at the top of the poster, where it says Michael Cera/Kat Dennings — I thought that was the tagline.
KD: I think the Yugo is the tagline. "There's a Yugo in this movie": That should be the tagline.
UW: What projects are you working on; what can we see you in after "Nick & Nora"?
MC: I'm going to be in "Revolt" next February.
KD: And I'm going to be in a film by Robert Rodriguez.
UW: In the movie, your characters are running all over New York, looking for this band: What would you guys run all over New York all night to find?
MC: Which band did you say?
UW: It doesn't have to be a band, just what would you spend all night running around for?
MC: Oh, a child.
KD: Yes, if I lost like a family member, if there was an emergency, but probably not for leisure. I don't find those types of things relaxing.
MC: No.
