Small Screen Smack

Pretend we didn’t see this coming

CBS took a gamble this fall with their new show, 'Viva Laughlin.' However, after two episodes, it has been canceled due to extremely underwhelming ratings. I suppose since nobody watched it, I will attempt to give an explanation of this catastrophe of a show. 'Viva Laughlin' tries to, well tried to follow the trend of musicals with a mystery/dramatic twist. There would be breaks in the plot for completely random acts of song, leaving the viewer simply thinking 'wtf.'

Result? More people would rather watch the 'Viva Viagra' commercial than this...

'Laughlin' has been replaced by the rerun of 'CSI' on Sunday. The following Sunday, Nov. 4, CBS will premiere the 12th season of the Emmy award winning 'Amazing Race.'

Also rejected this fall is CW's 'Online Nation' and Fox's 'Nashville.'

Again, since so many of you missed 'Online Nation,' the show basically features a collection of clips from the Internet. Also, 'Online Nation' was so half-assed; they allegedly mis-credited Showmageddon and the titles of the sketches were not the titles given by the original authors. Some things were just meant to stay on the Internet.

From the producers of 'Laguna Beach,' 'Nashville' is the Tennessee style O.C. But, with its lack of California glitter and scandal, it falls short of anything worthwhile. It premiered in September, and then it was kind of cancelled, with rumors to be brought back again some time this month. If Fox takes the plunge and attempts to salvage the show, this is when a network goes from a gamble to just poor decision making.

Oh, but poor decision making is okay, apparently. For instance, Miss Lohan goes to rehab, and Isaiah Washington goes to homophobe rehab.

Miss Paris Hilton, in honor of her poor decisions, is taking a trip to Rwanda with the children's charity Playing for Good. Of course, she is filming it with hopes of it developing into a show. By 'it' I mean her helping out in Rwanda.

Hilton says, 'I love having everything documented. It shows people what everyday life is like for me, how hard I work. There are a lot of misconceptions about me.'

She loves having everything documented, huh? Well, that's obvious.
