M*ch*g*n Mixtape
By U Weekly Staff
Whether you're tailgating at dawn on Saturday morning or making the three hour and change drive to Ann Arbor on Friday, you'll need a healthy collection of music for the game this weekend. While we all have the standard marching band affair loaded up on our gameday music play lists, here are a few other songs you might want to add into the mix.
’Hang On Sloopy’ by Saving Jane
Recorded some time ago for WNCI, this song only recently became available on iTunes for Buckeye fans to download, saving them the unenviable task of having to listen to WNCI at all. Of course, there’s no substitute for the original — it is, after all, our state’s official rock song.
The Dead Schembechlers
If we're talking about music during Michigan week, then we'd be pretty remiss not to mention The Dead Schembechlers in the same breath. With classic hits like: Bomb Ann Arbor Now, Chad Henne Is a Mother F***ing Joke, and the perennial Ann Arbor Girls Are Dirty Whores, The Dead Schembechlers have been hating on the Wolverines in song since 1990, giving fans of the maize and blue songs to hate other than We Don't Give a Damn for the Whole State of Michigan.
AC/DC
Let's be honest — AC/DC is good for just about any occasion (including wedding marches), but a little hard rock is even more of a good thing on gameday. Close your eyes to the beginning of Hell's Bells and you might as well be in Ohio Stadium on a third down. Thunderstruck is another favorite in the 'Shoe, as well as the drinking game some of the fans play to the song prior to kickoff.
YouTube Treasures
There are a lot of odd Ohio State songs that accompany Buckeye videos on YouTube that you can't find much anywhere else. A search for "Head Like a Ken Doll" will bring up a nice little homage to Jim Tressel, and "I Want Ohio State" will bring up a spoken word tribute to the Bucks over the marching band's music. A quick Google search will show you how to save those songs from the popular video site.
Classic Rock Up the Wazoo
Maybe it's just the opinion of our staff, or maybe there's something special to it — but some good old fashioned rock and roll seems to get fans pumped up more than anything else. Help yourself to a little "Let's Get Rocked," and trust us, no one's going to question your taste in music if you play a little Def Leppard a few hours before kickoff.
’Brown-Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison
Hey, it never hurts to have a reminder of those days “making love in the green grass, behind the stadium with you.”
Whatever tunes you go with, the important thing is that you crank it to 11 and have plenty of burgers and brats to go along with them. Oh, and it goes without saying that if you're going to Ann Arbor, you probably shouldn't buy any music there, so as not to support their local economy.
